Man versus Food??

I do like some cooking shows, cooks preparing wholesome food in well set out kitchens. This is not exciting enough for some people now. Nowadays you must set one chef competing against another chef. Or an elimination contest between groups of people cooking for a prize.

You also have people pitting themselves against ridiculously sized plates of food. Gorging themselves on giant steaks and spicy hot exotic dishes.

The Puritans use to say that many people dig there graves with their knife and fork.

Food  is provided for nourishment ,health and strength. We all know how over eating makes us feel. Taking God’s gifts and misusing them is sinful.

Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; 21For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe one with rags.…Proverbs 23 :20-21

Taken in excess anything can become a snare and an obsession. Eating to much ,eating to little, drinking alcohol to excess, What we wear, where and how we live.If we care to much about these circumstantial things we can forget the vital things of our relationship with Christ.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?Matt. 6:25

We can concern ourselves with these things far to much and forget our prime concern that Christ would be glorified in and through us.

If you who watched Daktari, no doubt you remember “Clarence the cross eyed lion”. He roared like a lion, was strong like a lion but could not see except double. Clarence was a friendly lion who was safe to be around.

In the book of Amos,The Lord is seen as a lion roaring from Zion. This “lion ” sees everything and misses nothing. God is no tame lion.  He sees the crime and injustice of men. He sees the idolatry and wrong and is coming to punish it.

He looks at the wrong that is being meted out to His’ children and will punish the wrongdoers. He comes to chastise His’ erring children and their sins.

To  the repentant and submissive, he will show mercy. To the believing He will bestow grace. He protects them from the hyenas that attack them.

In Revelation 5:5 our Lord Jesus is described as a lion.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Is the lion your friend?

God’s wrath: If there be a man before me who says that the wrath of God is too heavy a punishment for his little sin, I ask him, if the sin be little, why does he not give it up? C.H.Spurgeon.
